COVID-19 vaccinations

The NHS has now moved to the second phase of the vaccine rollout – people under 50 – and vaccinations will be offered by age. 

Getting an appointment

Currently, anyone in an eligible age group can book a vaccination online at www.nhs.uk/covid-vaccination. If you are not able to book online you can call 119 free of charge, between 7am and 11pm seven days a week. As the age limit reduces, this will be updated on the booking homepage.  

If you would prefer to have your vaccination at the centre run by local GP practices you do not need to do anything – we will contact you when we have appointments available. The invite from the GP practice will often be in the form of a text message.

We know lots of people will be eager to get protected but please do not contact your GP practice for an appointment. People will not be able to make an appointment unless they have been invited and you might stop someone who needs medical help getting through to us. 

Getting your second vaccination

People need two doses of the vaccine to make sure they get maximum protection. If you had your first dose at a GP centre, you will be contacted by your practice when it is time for your second dose. This will usually be 11-12 weeks after your first vaccination.  

If it is 11 weeks after you received your first vaccination, and you have not yet been invited for your second vaccination, please contact your GP practice who will arrange an appointment for you.

SMS Text Messages to your mobile phone

This practice will on occasion wish to use the above service to notify you of:
  • Reminders of appointments.
  • Changes to your booked appointment.
  • National issues such as Flu pandemics.
  • Practice being closed due to unforeseen circumstances.
  • Cancelled or altered clinics including GP, Nurse & Healthcare assistant.
  • Reminders of any reviews or vaccinations due.

If you do not wish to receive any text messages and want to opt out, please inform the practice.

Covid-19 Vaccination

The Pfizer BioNTech vaccine has now been approved for use and the NHS will be starting to offer this to priority groups as soon as supplies arrive.  

When will a vaccine be available?

The first deliveries of the vaccine should be during w/c 7 December and the NHS is ready to start offering them as soon as they arrive to those who need them most.

Who will get a vaccine?

The vaccine will be offered to those at greatest risk from Covid19 first, starting with people living in care homes, people over 80 years old and frontline health and social care workers. This is based on the guidance from the Joint Committee for Vaccinations and Immunisations which is available here. As more supplies of the vaccine or alternative vaccines become available it will be rolled out in phases to people aged between 80 and 50 and those who are clinically extremely vulnerable. People will be invited for a vaccine when it is their turn so they do not need to contact their practice or the NHS. 

Where can I get a vaccine?

To start with, vaccines will only be available at hospital ‘hubs’ where the Pfizer vaccine can be stored safely. However, arrangements are also being put in place to offer vaccines from a number of different locations as more supplies and different vaccines become available. These include local vaccine services provided by GPs and pharmacists and new dedicated vaccination centres to make sure that everyone who needs a vaccine is able to get one.

We will share further information with you as it becomes available. In the meantime, there are three things people can do to help: 

· Please don’t contact the NHS to seek a vaccine - we will contact you when it’s the right time to you to have yours

· Please act on your invite when it comes, and make sure you attend your appointments when you arrange them; 

· Please continue to abide by all the social distancing and hand hygiene guidance, which will still save lives.

Face coverings when accessing GP practices

 

We are asking all our patients to wear a face covering or something else that can cover the mouth and nose, such as a scarf, if you come to the surgery for an appointment.

Due to the ongoing situation with Coronavirus we are taking measures in line with guidance shared by NHS England and Public Health authorities to minimise risks associated with the virus.  In order to protect our patients and staff and we are asking our patients to support us with this.

 

What does this mean for you?

During this time if you have any other medical needs please contact the surgery and you will be offered a telephone consultation with a clinician and your health needs will be assessed – this may lead to a face to face consultation if needed.

Access to the surgery building will be restricted to those who have been invited to attend for an appointment. Only the patient with the appointment will be allowed into the building. Only one adult will be allowed to accompany a child with an appointment.

Electronic Prescription Service

We are upgrading to the next phase of the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) which will mean that almost all our prescriptions will be processed electronically from the 4th March 2020

Electronic prescriptions help save the NHS money.

You will receive your prescriptions in the same way as you do now.

PRACTICE PHARMACIST

Sara Hafidh has been with us now for a few months and replaces Kemi Daniels. Sara works every Monday afternoons. She is very skilled at medication reviews and can answer all types of questions on prescribing and prescriptions.

If the receptionists suggests you see Sara for a medication review and lifestyle advice, then this is because the practice would like you to do so. She supports us in our prescribing and also helps with audit work and monitoring of prescribing trends.

Practice Pharmacists have now been utilised in many practices nationally over the last few years and are proving to be a very useful resource to practices. You are still free to see the GP for your medication review should you wish, just let the receptionist know.

GP CARE WAKEFIELD

Is an extended out of hours service owned by all Wakefield GP Practices to cover the entire population of the Wakefield district.

It operates from 6 – 10 pm Monday to Friday, and 9 – 3pm Saturday’s, Sunday’s and Bank Holiday’s.   Telephones will be automatically diverted during operating hours. Outside of these times please telephone 111 or ring back during normal surgery hours if your need is not urgent.

Following triage of your problem, if deemed appropriate the service will offer you a GP appointment at Trinity Medical Centre or Pontefract General Infirmary.

There needs to be shared consent in place for the service to be able to provide safe care therefore please ensure you give explicit record sharing consent when accepting an appointment with the service. Patients who prefer not to give shared consent cannot access this service.

The service is not available for routine matters such as repeat prescriptions

Dementia Friendly Status

The Practice has been recognised as a Dementia Friendly Practice and has submitted a Action Plan to the Dementia Action Alliance. Further information to help people with Dementia and their carers and to raise awareness of Dementia can be found by clicking on the Dementia Awareness tab below (bottom right)

CQC Inspection Rating

The practice was inspected by the Care Quality Commission in September 2015 and is delighted to announce that it has been rated as 'GOOD'. The full report is available by clicking on the CQC tab below.
